HKL Reviews: Savour Mediterranean summer nights at this hidden Soho gem

Helmed by restaurateur Erik Kirakozov, a Georgia native who previously managed Pirata Group’s portfolio of restaurants and Spanish-born chef Antoni Bernabeu (also previously of Pirata Group), Basin has been serving up what we think is hands-down the best Mediterranean cuisine in Hong Kong for almost a year.

Taking its name from the lands surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, Basin highlights the best Mediterranean cuisine, focusing on French, Spanish and Italian food and a carefully curated regional wine list. As a rule, Chef Bernabeu uses only the freshest ingredients to interpret the famed healthy eating habits of the area.

On

On a nightly basis, in-the-know diners pack this boutique-style restaurant, feasting on Cured Tuna Lomo with delicate slices of tuna, egg yolk and zesty lime juice and Lobster Arroz Meloso with bomba rice, squid, and cuttlefish (both highlights of the Spring/Summer Menu).

There’s an excellent weekday lunch menu, and during weekends, guests can relax with the sharing-style La Méditerranée Brunch ($398 per person), which includes dishes such as Oysters, Homemade Gnocchi and Mediterranean Sea Bass as well as free-flow add-on drinks packages with wines, Champagne and cocktails.

In

In the leadup to Basin’s first anniversary, diners who book before October 2 can enjoy a complimentary glass of French bubbles

Basin has also recently opened its terrace right below the restaurant; Basin No. 2 will serve uniquely crafted cocktails and sharing plates for a complete Mediterranean alfresco experience.
