Art & state of mind: M+ to host thought-provoking lecture series
M+, Asia’s first global museum of contemporary visual culture in the West Kowloon Cultural District, will host a free talk by Mami Kataoka, Director of Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, to discuss how art can change people’s state of mind and help people move forward through challenging times. The event will take place at the Grand Stair of the museum from 7pm-8.30 pm on April 26 and be available online via live stream.
Healing has become more relevant with the pandemic impacting the public’s lives in the past years. Looking at the themes in Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now and works by artists who have addressed topics such as modern-day anxiety through their distinctive voices and visual language, Kataoka will reflect on the necessity of art in our lives and share her view on the connection between art and wellbeing through Kusama’s practice and philosophy.
Supported by The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Hong Kong, the talk is part of the M+ Lars Nittve Keynote Lecture Series. The discussion will be in English and free to attend; prior registration is required.
M+’s first Special Exhibition, Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now, is the most extensive retrospective of renowned artist Yayoi Kusama in Asia outside Japan, featuring more than 200 works from significant collections from museums and private collections in Asia, Europe, and the United States, the M+ Collection, as well as from the artist’s collection. The exhibition will close next month on May 14.
