The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong is offering two distinctive mooncake gifting ideas for the upcoming festival including a double-decker Mooncake Bento featuring six silky-smooth mini egg custard mooncakes ($458), crafted following the Mandarin Oriental’s signature recipe. The House Collective Mooncake Box Set 

The House Collective Mooncake Box Sets feature eight mini mooncakes in four modern and classic flavours; Maltitol Low Sugar White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Yolk, Vegan Mooncake with Nuts and Figs, Earl Grey Tea Custard Mooncake and Coffee and Salted Caramel Custard Mooncake. This year, chefs at luxury Chinese restaurant Mott 32 Hong Kong have created a collection of mooncakes inspired by some of their signature dishes. The Mott 32 Mooncake Gift Box ($488 for four) features four flavours; Matcha Forest, inspired by Mott 32’s signature dessert; tropical Mango Coconut, floral Chrysanthemum-Red Date and Yuzu-Umeshu, which takes its inspiration from one of Mott 32’s signature cocktails. Hong Kong Cuisine 1983

Breaking away from Cantonese-style mooncakes common in Hong Kong, Chef Silas and his team of master bakers at Hong Kong Cuisine 1983 pay homage to the traditional craft of Suzhou-style mooncakes.

Presented in an elegant gift box, the collection features six flavours of mooncakes, each crafted with golden flaky crusts, thin bases, and a delicate combination of sweet and savoury fillings. Initially known as “flaky pastry mooncakes,” the art of making Suzhou-style mooncakes dates back to the Tang Dynasty, the layered flaky pastry forms a round, plump shape, while the flavours span a delightful range of sweet and savoury. 

Sweet mooncakes are filled with red bean paste and lotus seed paste, while savoury variations often incorporate ingredients like Yunnan ham with mixed nuts.

The mooncake gift box is now available for pre-order, with pickups scheduled from early to mid-September. Each box is priced at $488 and includes six flavours.

This year, three Michelin-starred T’ang Court at The Langham, Hong Kong, presents two classic mooncake flavours. Executive Chinese Chef Chan Hon-cheong at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong has created a series of mooncake offerings including the Full Moon Box, Bright Moon Box and One Harbour Road Collection Box, with elegant packaging and creative flavours. The Full Moon Box ($468) contains four traditional white lotus seed paste mooncakes, the Bright Moon Box ($418) contains six mini egg custards mooncakes and for something more adventurous, the One Harbour Road Collection Box ($418) contains six mini mooncakes with traditional egg custard, egg custard with yuzu and sea salt and egg custard with crystalised ginger. This year, The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong has released a selection of  timeless mooncake sets. First up, The Luna Serenity Mini Egg Custard Mooncakes Set ($438 for eight pieces) features the mythological Jade Rabbit and the traditional red lantern on the classic Memorable Blue façade of the mooncake box. In collaboration with M+, The Ritz-Carlton presents a Madame Song Inspired Lava Egg Custard with Kumquat Mooncake Set ($548) to celebrate the opening of the museum’s new special exhibition. Rosewood Hong Kong kicks off the annual Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations with the launch of the “The Witty Moon” Mooncake Collection crafted from time-honoured recipes by Chinese Executive Chef Li Chi-Wai.

Exciting times at Black Sheep’s Ho Lee Fook — Chef ArChan and Chef Winson have created the restaurant’s first-ever set of mooncakes. Going back to basics, the chefs have created tender, square pastries made by hand and filled with a light custard, and salted egg yolk. For something a little different, Hong Kong’s biggest Italian supermarket Mercato Gourmet is offering a Mid-Autumn Festival Panettone Gift Box in collaboration with De Vivo, an Italian pastry shop which has been following the same rules and recipes created by De Vivo Grandparents for 60 years. In Italy, the round shape of Panettone also symbolises reunion and happiness. The gift box contains mini panettone in four flavours; Limoncello, ChocoRhum, Pistachio and Hazelnut. The Panettone Gift Box is available to order with an early-bird price of $528 from now until September 3.

Renowned French pastry brand Paul Lafayet has unveiled the Paul Lafayet Artistic Mooncake Gift Box in collaboration with local creative team Carrot Salmon. Four flavours of custard mooncakes; Crème Brûlée, Genmaicha, Earl Grey and Manuka Honey, are presented in a gift box that draws inspiration from the enchanting world of the full moon with French illustrations depicting the mythical figures Chang’e and the Jade Rabbit. Two MICHELIN Star Cantonese restaurant Ying Jee Club has announced the return of its Mini Egg Custards Mooncakes for the upcoming festival.

Exquisitely handcrafted daily by Executive Chef Siu Hin-chi and his culinary team, the Mid-Autumn Festival treat conveys respect and appreciation for the annual tradition, using only the finest ingredients and free of preservatives. The mini mooncakes come in an elegant teal jewel box, priced at $468 for six.
