Jello & Mellow Play Cafe in Quarry Bay
Recently opened in Quarry Bay, Jello & Mellow offers a playspace for children, a dedicated children’s menu and, most importantly, a space for grown-ups to relax and sip coffee.
The immersive new sanctuary for wholesome family dining and children’s play is the brainchild of VIVE founder Vivien Lau. Magical to the young at heart and cleverly multifunctional for busy grown-ups, Jello & Mellow offers family dining, interactive indoor play and engaging workshops.
The Space
Located just a short walk from Taikoo MTR station in a new Ginza-style commercial building overlooking Quarry Bay Park, Jello & Mellow is an airy Nordic-inspired 5,700 square foot space built upon simplicity and functionality with natural lighting and a palette of whites and pastels.
A funhouse mirror, distorting images into a host of playful reflections, leads into six creative spaces. The open Jello Kitchen serves two dining areas – the serene Main Dining Room, and The Mello Dining Room overlooking the play area of Fort Jiggle. The Secret Garden is a flower-festooned outdoor terrace perfect for photos with family and friends, while the Positivi-TEA Room welcomes workshops and private events.
The Menu
A reasonably priced menu features fresh ingredients with options such as handmade pizzas topped with fresh herbs, and Korean-style Fish & Chips. Healthy smoothies are given a fun twist with the pretty pink Uni-Cone (a strawberry, raspberry and banana smoothie crowned by a whimsical miniature upside-down ice-cream cone) and the Avocado Monster, which blends avocado with mango, cucumber and banana.
Platters such as The Wheels on the Bus and Over the Rainbow also include healthy ingredients such as pasta, vegetables, fruit, jelly and cheese presented in an imaginative way to encourage even the fussiest of eaters.
Workshops and parties
This bright, open space is ideal for holding children’s parties and private events. Guests can book the entire venue or areas, such as The Mello Dining Room or the Secret Garden, starting at $11,000 for four hours (up to 30 guests).
A regular programme of artistic workshops and other fun activities also draws enthusiasts from Eastern District and beyond. For example, this month, Jello & Mellow will join hands with Flower Child Studio for a Family or Friends Bonding Floral Workshop.
There’s also a Wafer Paper Flower Workshop in collaboration with Ciao Sugar Art from September 15-17. Ciao Sugar Art founder Joyce Chiu will share her skills in crafting edible flower sculptures from wafer paper (from $3,500 for the one-day workshop).
Jello & Mellow is open from 9.30 am to 7.30 pm daily. Admission for one adult and one child (under seven years old) costs $280 (weekdays) and $350 (weekends), including one complimentary snack and one drink. Bookings can be made here.
