In this monthly school report column, we share news of achievements, updates and events in Hong Kong schools. This October, CDNIS announced their Apple Distinguished status, Spear’s name three Hong Kong schools amongst top 100 schools in the world and student-led non profit organisation invite secondary students across Hong Kong to enter a design thinking competition and win big prizes.

CDNIS named Apple Distinguished School

Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS) has once again been recognised as an Apple Distinguished School for 2022-2025 for its integration of technology in helping to create a centre of educational excellence and leadership. Apple Distinguished Schools are centres of innovation, leadership and educational excellence. They use Apple technology to inspire creativity, collaboration and critical thinking in learning, teaching and the school environment, and have documented results of academic accomplishment. CDNIS first received designation in 1998. Head of School Dr. Jane Camblin said, “CDNIS is proud of this designation as it validates our commitment to providing our students and teachers with the technological tools and creative skills that will help them contribute to an increasingly integrated world. CDNIS has a long history of integrating technology and education, having long been an Apple-based school. This award reaffirms CDNIS’ success in providing a modern and innovative teaching and learning environment that nurtures creativity, digital literacy and 21st Century Collaboration.”

Redesign HK competition open to secondary students

Student-led non profit organisation Lynker is set to host Redesign HK, a design thinking challenge open to all secondary school students in Hong Kong. Created by students for students, the challenge requires students to focus on the question: ‘How might we build towards a better Hong Kong?‘ Participants will be guided through five design thinking stages – empathise, define, ideate, prototype and test and encouraged to approach real-world problems, innovate creative ideas, and drive positive impact. To be in with a chance to win prizes, including $10,000 and an all expenses paid trip to Design Thinking Conference in Singapore, students must register before November 25. Entries can be individual or in a team of up to four. Finalists will be announced on January 15, 2023, for more information or to register visit Lynker.

Three Hong Kong schools ranked in world’s top 100

Three Hong Kong schools have been named amongst the 100 best private schools in the world as part of the Spear’s Schools Index, in partnership with leading British education consultancy, Carfax Education. Harrow International School Hong Kong, Hong Kong International School and Kellett School have been included in the international index of the 100 best private schools. Categorised by region, the schools were named in the Top 15 Schools in the China & Southeast Asia category. Top schools listed for 2022 also include British schools such as Wellington College and Eton College, St Paul’s School in Brazil and Geelong Grammar School in Australia.
