Hong Kong Ballet’s 2024/25 Season preview
The 2024/25 Season commences with TUTU ACADEMY, a joyful and quirky short film celebrating HKB’s 45th Anniversary. This exciting season features four captivating premieres alongside beloved family favourites.Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) has unveiled its upcoming 2024/25 Season productions, featuring a captivating mix of premieres and timeless classics. In addition, HKB will present the premiere of ‘Tutu Academy’, a delightful and eccentric short film that commemorates HKB’s 45th Anniversary.
The season will showcase four full-length productions: The Wizard of Oz, an enchanting adventure with Dorothy and her companions; The Butterfly Lovers, a beloved Chinese legend of forbidden love; Frida, a poignant portrayal of the renowned surrealist artist Frida Kahlo; and a mesmerising new interpretation of Giselle, a tale of passion, betrayal, and redemption. Families can also look forward to the cherished Hong Kong-themed production of The Nutcracker during the festive season, as well as a delightful Ballet Carnival for Kids featuring interactive ALICE (in wonderland) activities, including an unforgettable The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

Ballet Carnival for Kids: The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party
January 25-26, 2025
Families will love this captivating ballet event featuring Alice, the White Rabbit, Queen of Hearts, and Mad Hatter. Come dressed as your preferred character, have the chance to win prizes in the costume competition, and participate in a lively Mad Hatter Tea Party!
Frida
April 4-6, 2025
Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s visually captivating production, Frida, delves into the multifaceted life story of visionary artist Frida Kahlo. It uses rich imagery inspired by her bold paintings and deeply personal self-portraits within a magical world of surrealism.
Giselle
May 30 – June 8, 2025
Charla Genn and Webre’s Giselle present a captivating love, deceit, and ultimate salvation narrative. The story revolves around a carefree peasant girl entangled in a passionate romance with a charming nobleman in disguise, only to face heartbreak and encounter supernatural elements.
Artistic Director Septime Webre describes Tutu Academy as a film highlighting ballet’s unifying power, set in a retro-futuristic Hong Kong. Executive Director Heidi Lee encourages continued support for HKB, promising exciting shows and community events, with special discounts available during the booking period.
The season will also feature renowned International Guest Artists, including choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and Academy-award-winning designers.
