Hong Kong Cancer Fund Pink Ambassadors

Breast Cancer Awareness: A self-check guide and Asaya’s Cancer Wellness Programme

To mark breast cancer awareness month, the Hong Kong Cancer Fund has collaborated with a number of charities to highlight breast cancer and the benefits of early detection. The campaign reminds women of all ages to remain vigilant to any abnormalities in their breasts and consult a doctor immediately should they notice any changes. Throughout October, the Hong Kong Cancer Fund will host events across the city to help raise awareness of breast cancer including ‘Dress Pink Day’ on October 21 and a ‘Shop for Pink’ event across the city.

‘Be Smart. Check”

Women should be aware of the risks of developing breast cancer, conduct regular checks and screening on a risk-based approach to ensure early detection.

1. Look For

Observe the breast and the nipple and note any abnormalities.

2. Feel For

Use the pads of the middle three fingers to examine the breast in dime-sized circular movements for any lumps, thickening of tissue, wrinkles, dimples and unusual colour change. Gently press and check for any discharge from the nipples.

3. Compare

Compare the shape and size of your breast with your last check and establish any differences.

Asaya launches “Wellness for Cancer”

This October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Asaya at Rosewood Hong Kong honours its guests and the broader community touched by cancer by launching adaptations of its well-being programmes for the specific needs of those who are either undergoing or emerging from treatment, living with cancer or thriving long-term. Asaya’s therapists have been carefully trained in partnership with globally accredited charity Wellness for Cancer and it now offers adapted massage and treatment techniques, including care around lymphedema awareness. The introduction of these offerings is combined with special “Cancer Aware” seminars, modified yoga classes and talks throughout October. Asaya will also host a series of talks and yoga classes on Thursday 20 and 27 October, from 6.30 to 8.30pm. This Cancer Awareness series includes a 45-minute modified yoga class with Asaya guest instructor and yoga guru Victor Chau, followed by an in-depth “The Truth about Moobs and Boobs” talk by resident naturopath and Asaya Anchor Coach, Dr. Tal Friedman N.D. Tickets to the two-hour Cancer Aware events are priced at $550, with proceeds donated to registered charity Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre Hong Kong which provide valuable cancer support services to those living with cancer in the local community. Specially adapted Cancer Aware treatments will be offered at Asaya from October onwards for guests living with all types of cancer.
