Strong foundations from the start
The British National Curriculum provides the academic foundation at WASHK, with opportunities for pupils to explore, question, create and solve problems from KS1 (Years 1 and 2). The school’s award-winning iSTEAM programme brings together science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics through hands-on learning, encouraging children to experiment, collaborate and apply ideas to the world around them. Sport, music, co-curricular activities, outdoor learning, trips and cultural experiences give pupils opportunities to discover new interests and build confidence, independence and resilience.
This future-focused approach evolves throughout the school. At the Prep School, iSTEAM forms part of the core curriculum, complemented by entrepreneurship opportunities from Years 5–8. These currently include the Green Entrepreneur ECA, alongside externally run clubs such as Junior CEO for Years 3–5 and The CEO Lab for Years 6–8. At Senior School, students progress to IGCSEs and A-Levels, with Entrepreneurship also taught as a core subject from Years 9–13.
Beyond the classroom
The wider school experience is an important part of Wycombe Abbey’s approach to educating the whole child, with over 100 ECA offerings each term providing opportunities for pupils to develop their interests and talents alongside academic learning. Performing arts play an important role from the early years. From Year 1, children take part in school productions and celebrations, including Chinese New Year performances, alongside arts-focused activities and individual instrumental learning. Whether performing, learning an instrument or creating as part of a group, these experiences help pupils build confidence, express themselves and share their ideas with others.
The campus supports this emphasis on learning through experience. Prep School facilities include iSTEAM and science labs, dedicated music and performance spaces, an art studio and creativity garden, sports facilities and what the school describes as the highest climbing wall in a Hong Kong school. A strong sense of belonging
Small class sizes and individual attention are central to the Wycombe Abbey approach. In Years 1 and 2, pupils are taught by teachers with specialist Key Stage 1 experience, supported by dedicated Teaching Assistants. Alongside their class teachers, children also learn from specialist subject teachers, including in iSTEAM, giving them access to a breadth of expertise from the beginning of their school journey.
