The best luxury hotels that opened in 2023
It’s that time of year when the travel industry is winding up the year that was. This week LTI – Luxury Travel Intelligence, a members-only travel intelligence group, revealed the World’s Best New Luxury Hotels of 2023. Asia-located hotels received mentions as did Asian brands, including Raffles, Six Senses, Mandarin and The Peninsula, but while a Singapore property made it into the top 15, there was no mention of Hong Kong.
Top of the list was Bulgari, Rome, a LVMH-owned property. Bulgari also took third place with Bulgari, Tokyo. The brand, known primarily for fine jewellery, is set to expand further, with resorts planned in the near future for Maldives, Miami Beach and Los Angeles. Bulgari Hotel Roma opened to great fanfare in June and is the second Italian Bulgari property following Milan. It’s situated close to Rome’s famous Spanish Steps and boasts six floors with multiple outdoor terraces and sweeping views of the city. There are just 114 rooms, including 48 suites, with prices starting at a punchy US$1,500 per night.
Another European property, the chic boutique-style 1 Place Vendome in Paris, took second place.
The Peninsula brand had two properties placed in the top 15; The Peninsula Istanbul came in at number five and The Peninsula London, one of a raft of luxury hotels to open in the British capital this year, was placed at number 15.
Rome featured again in the top ten with Six Senses Rome coming in at number seven. The property is Six Senses’ first foray into Italy. Parts of the building date back to the fourth century and the interior design stays faithful to the property’s origins, with marble seating and preserved historic stonework. Central to the hotel is the Roman bathing circuit in the hotel spa.
Another Asian brand, Raffles, featured in the top ten with its stunning new London property, Raffles at the OWO, taking eighth place. The historic Old War Office in Whitehall has been meticulously restored over many years in preparation for its new chapter as a swanky city hotel; the gorgeous interior features hand-laid mosaic floors, oak panelling, chandeliers and a grand marble staircase.
Como Metropolitan Singapore, housed in Como Orchard on Bideford Road, came in at number 11. The hotel is part of an integrated development over 19 floors, including Como hospitality, fashion, wellness and cuisine.
