In October 2009, we published our very first Sai Kung & Clearwater Bay Magazine. We have since expanded our titles to include Expat Parent, Southside & The Peak Magazine and Mid-levels Magazine over the years. In honour of our milestone 10th anniversary, we plowed through our archives to look back on 10 of our favourite magazine covers and the stories behind them. Click right to view all 10 covers!

Sai Kung & Clearwater Bay Magazine
One of our firsts, this cover brings in the new year with tips for becoming the best you, feeling zen and making the most of your ‘one-der years’. A wonder indeed. Luckily for us, Cantonese restaurant Loaf On, Sai Kung’s one and only Michelin-star restaurant, continues to hold their star today!

We’re still dreaming about this dream home on the cover here. Surrounded by greenery (check), swimming pool and blue views (check), numerous bedrooms and lots of space (check). We’re sold!
In this issue, we spoke to the late Wayne Parfitt, the Australian restauranteur who sadly passed away in June of this year. He introduced Hong Kong to the likes of Pepperoni’s, Jaspas, Oolaa, Piccolo and Wagyu, to name but a few. He will be missed.

Sai Kung & Clearwater Bay Magazine
The question on all of Sai Kung residents’ lips, where have the cows gone? This cover was illustrated by our graphic designer at the time, Kelvin Lau, whilst editor Hannah Grogran looked into the disappearance of Sai Kung’s feral cattle – some of whom were relocated to Lantau by the Agriculture Fisheries & Conservation Department (AFCD). For any true Saikunger, conversations on the whereabouts of Sai Kung cows are as frequent as Brits talking about the weather.
October 2015
Southside Magazine
Can you believe that drones have been popular since 2015? The story behind this cover looks at the ins and outs of drones as well as tips on using them. The rules on drone use may have changed over the years, but Hong Kong still has a claim to fame through DJI, the world’s largest drone manufacturer which accounts for 70% of the world’s drones and was founded by a Hong Kong University of Science and Technology alumnus!

Expat Parent Magazine
This colourful cover is a stunning canvas from artist, Louise Hill. She describes her design as a ‘wish you were here’ postcard as it features the essence of what makes Hong Kong so special. Look closer for iconic Hong Kong landmarks, which combines Hill’s own photography with vintage one-off finds.

Sai Kung & Clearwater Bay Magazine
This picturesque Sai Kung issue is another print from artist Louise Hill, celebrating all the things we love about Sai Kung including the infamous cows. Our top 50 reasons to love Sai Kung continue to remain the same – the old town and the square, beautiful hikes and scenery, sampans and junks, al fresco dining and super friendly people. We love you Sai Kung!
May 2018
Expat Parent Magazine
This issue is one for all the foreign domestic helpers who work tirelessly behind the scenes. They play a huge role in families day-to-day lives here in Hong Kong and we would be very much lost with out them. So here’s to May and Helper Appreciation Month!
January 2019
Mid-Levels Magazine
What a cover! Our current managing editor, Gemma Shaw, had the honour of meeting Professor Jimmy Choo, OBE. Yes, that Jimmy Choo. He talks about his work ethic, the history of his heels and the importance of being humble.
February 2019
Southside Magazine
Looking stylish as always, Hong Kong icon Bonnae Gokson brings glamour to this February issue. Her entrepreneur spirit and style shine through, as she shares the release of her second book whilst chatting about success, style and sprirtuality.

And there we have it. Our latest issue of Sai Kung magazine celebrating our 10 year anniversary. Our editor Nicole Slater had lots of fun putting together this issue following the theme of 10. You name it, we’ve squeezed a 10 in somewhere – top 10 Sai Kung restaurants, top 10 Sai Kung days out, 10 best police blotters from over the years, 10 reasons why we love Sai Kung and of course a chat with our past editors. Enjoy!
