The Best New Singapore Hotels Opening in 2023

If you’re heading to the Little Red Dot, don’t miss these new hotel offerings, says Carolynne Dear

Mondrian Singapore Duxton

Mondrian Singapore Duxton has opened its doors this year in Singapore’s trendy Duxton Hill neighbourhood.

Harnessing an ‘art-forward cool’ mantra, Los Angeles-based Studio Carter has led the design which is based on a ‘deconstructed shophouse chic’ philosophy.

Guests are thrust into the heart of the action from the moment they arrive, with the main hotel restaurant and bar taking centre stage in the lobby. World-leading Italian butcher Dario Cecchini will preside over the dining space, Bottega di Carna, a modern Italian restaurant with a touch of Tuscany. Prime cuts of meat take pride of place on the menu.

The property has 302 rooms with multi-disciplinary artworks throughout the property featuring emerging and established Singaporean artists. Along with the restaurant, there will be a café, cocktail bar and rooftop bar.

The rooftop bar channels a groovy 1970s Hollywood vibe, with poolside cabanas, glittering city views, fresh seafood and a Californian inspired menu.

Mondrian Singapore Duxton will be the group’s first property in Southeast Asia and the second in Asia Pacific, following the opening of Mondrian Seoul Itaewon in 2020. Mondrian is doubling its portfolio of seven properties this year with launches in Bordeaux, Cannes and on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Dao by Dorsett

If you’re looking for serviced apartments rather than a hotel, Dao by Dorsett is a new aparthotel concept that recently opened in Singapore.

Dao by Dorsett has been rebranded from Oakwood Premier hotel and is centrally located in the OUE building in the downtown area of the city.

The 268 fully serviced apartments can be custom-fit for a stay, including requesting an in-room playtime set-up for children, or ordering tailored fresh produce boxes to cook in-room. A brilliant toy library is also available to keep youngsters entertained in-room.

All guest experiences have been carefully curated with local partners and designed to showcase the best of Singapore.

Innovative concepts include guests being able to adopt a houseplant for the duration of their stay from the Dao Plant Library. The library is presented by Singapore group The Botanist & Her Thieves who can provide care tips and information to green-fingered and not-so-green-fingered guests.

A plant-based menu for the in-house restaurant, Collective, has been developed with Green Common and there is also a partnership with Singapore’s Brass Lion Distillery. A sky bar will be opening on the outdoor deck at the end of the year.

Further facilities include complimentary parking, wifi, an outdoor swimming pool and terrace and wellness centre access.

Hotel Faber Park Singapore

Singapore’s Mount Faber will be welcoming a new hotel this autumn with the launch of The Hotel Faber Park Singapore.

The hotel takes its name from Captain Charles Edward Faber of the Madras Engineers, who built a narrow winding road to the summit of the mountain to install a signal station. The verdant Mount Faber stands on the southern tip of Singapore with views over the city and harbour and out to Sentosa island.

Amenities at the property included 194 rooms, a restaurant, lobby bar and pool. Perfect for families looking to enjoy Singapore’s fun attractions, the hotel is convenient for the attractions of Sentosa, VivoCity and Singapore Cable Car and is walking distance from the city’s MRT metro line.

The property is part of the Handwritten Collection, a fresh hotel brand created by international hospitality group Accor in partnership with Global Premium Hotels Limited.

The Handwritten Collection was launched by Accor earlier this year. It offers properties with a personal touch reflecting the personality of the people who run them and of the corner of the world in which they are found. Handwritten Collection properties have so far opened in Australia, France and Estonia and there are plans to open a further 250 hotels by 2030. The Hotel Faber Park Singapore is the collection’s first property to open in Southeast Asia.

“The well-thought out, elegant design and layout, from the lobby and restaurant to each room is inspired by the foothills of Mount Faber Park, one of the oldest in Singapore, which surrounds the hotel,” said Ko Lee Meng, Global Premium Hotels’ chief executive officer. “Here guests have arrived at a piece of Singapore’s history.”

The Hotel Faber Park Singapore is slated to open towards the end of this year.

Mercure Singapore Tyrwhitt

The international hotel brand Accor has opened Mercure Singapore Tyrwhitt in the city’s heritage district.

This is a rebranded property and ideal for those searching for a spot of culture in the Lion City. The family-friendly hotel is located on Tyrwhitt Road with its colourful shop houses, coffee shops and boutique cafés and is positioning itself as a locally-inspired hotel at a wallet-friendly price point (rooms start at S$180 per night). It’s conveniently located and is walking distance from Bendemeer MRT station and close to Little India.

The hotel building is in the style of the art deco hardware stores and industrial workshops of Singapore in the 1950s and offers 270 rooms in classic, twin, double and family configurations. All rooms come with water dispensers, smart tv and high-speed Wifi and balcony rooms have a veranda with a swing seat. Mercure Privilege Rooms offer floor-to-ceiling windows and options for family room set-ups; some also come with converted loft space.

Facilities include a rooftop pool with a kids’ wading area and fountain, along with a fitness centre. Guests can access Applause restaurant for all-day dining, while Tyrwhitt Little Café serves freshly brewed coffee and tea and light bites.

This is Mercure’s third Singapore hotel and Accor’s 28th property in the city.

Artyzen Singapore

Artyzen Singapore, a flagship hotel for Artyzen hospitality group, is slated to launch in November this year.

Guests can look forward to a 142-key hotel in the city’s Orchard Road district. The hotel has a green theme and is described as a “‘luxury vertical oasis in the heart of Singapore”. There will also be a roof garden with a 25m infinity pool and sunken lounge.

Earlier this year boutique hospitality group Artyzen announced seven new openings for 2023, including Singapore.

The Asia-rooted group aims to embrace the art and culture of its destinations, with an emphasis on creating “meaningful” travel experiences. The majority of its properties are in China, with two more in Hawaii.

Along with Singapore, Artyzen will be opening hotels in Shanghai, Suzhou, Zhuhai and Chongqing this year. “We’re proud to unveil Artyzen Hospitality Group’s new property opening pipeline, with an entry in Singapore, Suzhou, Zhuhai and Chongqing,” said Artyzen vice president Peter Wynne. “Shanghai remains our launchpad with ten properties in operation by the end of 2023. We look forward to welcoming guests to Artyzen’s Asia-rooted DNA, bringing to life our own distinct homegrown lifestyle philosophy woven into the stay experience.”
