Hoi Ha Wan
Sai Kung
Description
Hoi Ha is one of the most beautiful areas in Hong Kong, with crystal clear waters, beautiful beaches and dense forests. This hike follows the Tai Tan trail around the southern coastline of Sai Kung West Country Park before descending down into Hoi Ha. Along the way, you will be treated to beautiful scenery, ranging from lush mangroves to vast sea views.
Route
Take the route marked to Tai Tan. Continue through the village and cross Hau Tong Kai, a small river that flows into Long Harbour.
Continue down the road and onto the Tai Tan trail as it heads into the forest. A short walk brings you to Tai Tan village. Stay on the path and eventually the forest gives way to wild, subtropical scenery of mangroves and thatch screw pine.
Continuing on, the trail becomes scattered with boulders making the going uneven. The trail follows the coastline for over a kilometre, gently increasing in altitude before finally descending into a serene cove with a small beach.
Crossing the sand, the next section gradually rises to the highest point of the hike, about half way to the finish line. At the fork, turn right down a set of steps and wind down into a valley, before heading uphill again.
At the top, there is a stunning panorama of Long Harbour and Sharp Peak. From here, the trail descends to the next junction connecting to the Wan Tsai Peninsula. From here, take the path heading left along the north side of the country park, past the Hoi Ha Marine Life Centre.
