High Junk Peak
Clear Water Bay
Description
High Junk Peak rises like a big thumbs-up over the Clearwater Bay peninsula. Its summit gives a view of two worlds, with the lovely bays and village houses of Clearwater Bay on one side and the industrial areas and high rises of Tseung Kwan O on the other. This juxtaposition of urban development and country park is what makes hiking in Hong Kong so special.
Route
Cross the road and walk up the steps to the right of the pavilion. At the first fork, take the path to the left following the route to Tai Miu, home to the temple at the end of the hike.
Take a break at Sheung Yeung Shan, the route’s first vantage point, which overlooks Kowloon East, Clearwater Bay and the LOHAS Park complex.
Continue along High Junk Peak trail – the path is easy to follow – although the dense undergrowth in some places means walking in single file.
In the distance lies the finish line at Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club. Buses and taxis travel along Tai Au Mun Road, which runs almost parallel to the trail and is your route back to civilisation.
