Harry Potter exhibition opens in Macau

The Londoner hotel in Macau is hosting Harry Potter: The Exhibition.

The Londoner hotel in Macau is hosting Harry Potter: The Exhibition. The all-new, behind-the-scenes, interactive exhibition includes more than 20 galleries and is the most comprehensive Harry Potter exhibition ever presented.

The Londoner Macao is the first touring destination in Asia Pacific for the exhibition, which explores popular moments from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beast films, as well as the theatre production Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.

Visitors will receive a wristband on arrival which allows them to dive into personalised immersive experiences, such as choosing their own wand and collecting points for their chosen ‘house’ with each activity as they progress around the various galleries that make up the exhibition.

Experiences include the hall of moving portraits, a replication of the floating candle scene in the Great Hall and exploring Hogwarts classrooms. Photos can be taken seated in Hagrids’ Hut as well as in Harry’s infamous childhood cupboard under the stairs.

Gallery highlights include the From Page to Screen Gallery showcasing a first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. In the Hogwarts Castle Gallery there are immersive multimedia experiences of the Whomping Willow, Dementors and the Marauder’s Map where visitors will see their own name appear. There’s a Great Hall Gallery and a Hogwarts Houses Gallery, where visitors can select their own house and take photos wearing the sorting hat. Meanwhile, the Hogwarts Classrooms Gallery is filled with props, creatures and costumes; interactive activities include interacting with magical lessons and games via digital touchscreens and brewing potions in the Potions Classroom. There’s even a recreation of Hagrid’s Hut and the Forbidden Forest for visitors to explore.

Costumes and props from Harry Potter and The Cursed Child are also displayed along with vignettes from the Fantastic Beasts films.

This fascinating exhibition has been developed by Imagine Exhibitions in collaboration with Warner Bros and EMC Presents. Since its inaugural launch in the US a year ago it has welcomed more than 1.7 million visitors.

Sands, owner of the Londoner Macao, is justifiably honoured to be hosting the event. “We are absolutely delighted that The Londoner Macao is the first touring destination in Asia Pacific for Harry Potter,” said Sands China president, Dr Wilfred Wong, at the launch earlier this month. “This touring exhibition is truly spectacular and will appeal to a broad audience of all ages.”

The Macau-based exhibition will be open seven days a week. Tickets cost from HK$218 for adults and HK$168 for children and can be bought online (https://macao.harrypotterexhibition.com/en/).
