Stay smooth this Christmas with Glow Spa

Everything you need to know about laser hair removal and why it is the perfect time to try it

In collaboration with Glow Spa

The temperature is dropping, fashion is changing and we are starting to bundle up – so it is the perfect time to quit the waxing and start a course of laser hair removal.

How does laser hair removal work?

The treatment area is exposed to intense light of a single frequency. The pigment in the hair absorbs the light and converts it into heat energy that preferentially heats the hair and the root ball and reduces oxygen around the hair follicle causing damage to the hair root, reducing its

ability to regrow. As the laser relies on pigment absorbing the light, the treatments work best when there is contrast between the hair and the skin tone, making it easier for the light to travel along the hair shaft. Winter is the perfect time to start a course of laser hair removal, as we bundle up against the cooler weather, our skin is also protected from the harsh rays of the sun, making it easier to avoid the sun exposure before and after your treatment.

It is essential to do your research before starting a course of treatments. Make sure you ask lots of questions, if you are confused about anything, your therapist should be able to clarify for you. Voice your concerns, especially if you have any medical conditions.

The Glow team are all fully qualified aestheticians holding internationally-recognised qualifications in Light and Laser therapies. The lasers are new, purchased just a couple of months pre-Covid, and use the very latest technology. The treatments are fast and comfortable and the therapist follows strict safety guidelines.

Is it painful?

Laser hair removal is not pain-free but the level of pain is appreciably less than waxing. The slight discomfort can best be described as the feeling of a pokey hairbrush rolling against your skin. The lasers at Glow have built in cooling systems, ensuring the surrounding areas are cooled to minimise discomfort.

How many treatments will I need?

There are several factors that determine the number of treatments you will need, including your hair colour and your skin pigmentation,  your age, the time between treatments,  and your hormone levels.

At Glow, treatments typically yield greater than 70 percent hair reduction within four to five treatments for most clients, and it is recommended that treatments are completed regularly every four to five weeks.

Glow offers laser hair removal for both men and women, for all body area, including intimate areas. Christmas is the time to treat yourself or a loved one, especially for those looking for a gift that is a little different or have been considering embarking on the journey to being hair-free.

This Christmas, Glow is offering a 50 percent discount on single treatments and 15 percent discount on laser hair removal courses, between December 1 to 24. Details of this promotion can be found on its website.
