How to get there: Take the Island Line to Causeway Bay MTR station, take exit E and walk to Jardine’s Bazaar. From there, take minibus 40 to Stanley Main Beach. If you prefer a better view of Repulse Bay from the windows, take bus 260, 6 or 6X from Exchange Square in Central and get off at Stanley Market. Head right to Stanley Beach Road until you reach Stanley Main Beach.

How to get there: At Tsuen Wan MTR Station Exit A, take bus 51 from Tsuen Wan Railway Station bus stop and get off at Country Park Station. Walk up to Tai Mo Shan Road and continue for 20 minutes to the Tai Mo Shan Country Park Visitor Centre.
Facilities: Nine barbecues, toilets, kiosk, rain shelter, jogging trail, the Pineapple Dam Nature Trail and a lookout. There is also a campsite near Lead Mine Pass.

Turtle Cove Beach

Hidden in greenery at the foot of the Red Hill Peninsula is Turtle Cove Beach. Secluded, quiet and modest, this beachside barbecue pit is rarely frequented by the inhabitants of Southside. How to get there: Take the Island Line to Chai Wan MTR station, take exit C and walk to the Chai Wan minibus terminus. Take minibus 16X and get off at the Red Hill Peninsula. Head northwest on Tai Tam Road and turn right onto Lo Fu Shan Catch Water. There you will see a flight of stairs leading downwards, which will take you to Turtle Cove Beach.

Lo So Shing Beach

Escape the Hong Kong Island crowds and relax at a Hong Kong favourite. Said to be the most beautiful stretch of sand on Lamma, visitors will take in views of water, sand and forrest greenery while firing up the grill. As this one takes a bit of a walk to get to, it’s often not as busy as other beaches around Lamma. So get in early and take it all in without the crowds getting in the way of your Instagram shot.

How to get there: Catch the ferry from Central Pier 4 to Yung Shue Wan and follow the Family Walk. You should reach after a 15 minute walk from the hilltop pavilion.

Sharp Island

How to get there: Take a kaido to Kiu Tsui or Hap Mun Bay by the Sai Kung bus terminus.

Whilst there is no swimming allowed in the beach (due to contamination and also pollution from sewers), its a pretty spot for a barbecue! This long stretch of golden sand along the Rambler Channel offers gorgeous views of the water and the trio of bridges that connect Lantau to Hong Kong Island.

How to get there: From Tsuen Wan West MTR, take Exit E1 to Tsuen Wan West Station Public Transport Interchange. Catch bus 234A or 23B from there and stop at Sea Crest Villa Phrase 3 bus stop – directly opposite Anglers’ Beach.

Waterfall Bay Park

Head northwest on Yue Kwong Road towards Aberdeen Reservoir Road and go slightly left onto the Aberdeen Fitness Trail until you reach Aberdeen Country Park.
